I can fill in a little more information about Abraham Crabtree and Co.
Abraham Crabtree (Senior) was a Liverpool merchant and the partners of the company consisted (I think) of various of his brothers and friends from the Newchurch in Rossendale area in Lancashire. From notices in the London Gazette, it appears that the partners came and went fairly frequently.Abraham was listed as being "of Bahia" in his wedding notice in the Manchester Guardian. He died, in 1859, aged 57, of consumption, leaving a widow and 2 children. His widow's headstone lists her as the widow of "Abraham Crabtree of Bahia and Liverpool", so they family were clearly proud of the somewhat exotic connection! I suspect that their son, also Abraham, tried to go on participating in Crabtree and Co, but the business seems to have gone bankrupt in about 1860-1861 and he too died, aged only 24 in 1866.
