James, For those who don´t know "where to": RS,SC,PR,SP (which stand for Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Parana and Sao Paulo) are the Brazilian southern states where most of the immigrants settled in, especially Germans (1850 on), Italians (1870 on), Polish (1890 on) and Japanese (1910). In a minor degree, ES (Espirito Santo)and RJ (Rio de Janeiro) were also a destination. 1. Birth (usually from 1889 on, but there are exceptions, mainly for major cities), Death and Marriage Certificates: Go to www.mj.gov.br. On the right side of the screen click on Cadastro de Cartórios. Next page, select the desired state on the map and click on it. Now select the town (Municipio) in that state, then select Nascimento (birth) or Obito or Casamento (death / marriage) in Atribuicao. That will give you a list of all Civil Register Offices in that town that has records concerning births, marriages and deaths. Most of them has webpages or email addresses, plus the usual phone and fax numbers. Gilberto Notify Administrator about this message?
