Roger, Firstly, I apologize for mixing my request from PIASA with your query. Check these LDS records: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/printing/titledetailsprint.asp?titleno=379918 In a ship arrival, you may find immigrant´s name and surname; relationship with family members traveling with, if any; nationality; profession; religion; age In a hosltery book, you may find immigrant´s name, surname, members of the family traveling with, age, sex, marital status and state of destination. My suggestion is that you start in 1890, since this was the year the `immigration fever´ started and many Poles from Bygdoszcz, Lipno and Plock arrived in 1890, my grandfather included. Because the hostelry book mentions the name of the ship but not his port of departure, I will send you a list of ships arriving in Rio de Janeiro in 1890 (I have lists of all arrivals, from 1885 to 1900, in case you need any of them). Then, by knowing the names of the ships arrived from Bremen (or Hamburg) you will know what to look for in the hostelry book. The information I have given you about a “foreigner ID card” does not apply to him. If he was born in 1854, he was 84 y.o in 1938 and, therefore, not obliged to have an ID card, unless he wanted to.
