Although I do not have this group of Cornish Williams in my data - and neither does Sharron Schwartz in her "Cornish in Latin America" database, see http://www.projects.ex.ac.uk/cornishlatin/database/searchforanancestor.phphttp://www.projects.ex.ac.uk/cornishlatin/database/searchforanancestor.php - there were a couple John & Charlotte Williams who left Liverpool for Rio de Janeiro in 1901.
You can access the relevant passenger list for that sailing at the (UK) National Archives in Kew or onlone for a fee at http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action?redef=0http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action?redef=0
I cannot see any sign of them moving on to South Africa; you do not mention which of the family went to Michigan or when.
For Morro Velho (in the state of Minas Gerais) the normal arrival port would have been Rio de Janeiro. The usual departure ports were Southampton, London and Liverpool.
best wishes
David
