Dear Herbert:

I believe that there are two Fredericos, father and son, no? The website of the Bahian Commercial Association lists the following directors:

1908 / 1909 - Frederico A. Hasselmann

1907 / 1908 - Frederico A. Hasselmann.

I am writing an economic and business history of Bahia, 1810 - 2000. As such, I am interested in particular persons who played a major role and, certainly, your g-grandfather did.

I would be most interersted in knowing more about the Hasselmann family in Bahia.

Do you know when (year?) the first Hasselmann arrived in Brazil? Was that in Bahia? I'm guessing in the 1820s-30's and probably from either Hamburg or Bremen, probably in one of Robert Sloman's sailing ships.

Regards,

Marc W. Herold, University of New Hampshire
