Family Larsen from Denmark to Sao Paulo 1887
We are looking for information about my wifes great-grandfather and -mother, who lived in Campinas, Sao Paulo for some years. What we know is the following:
My wifes great-grandfather, Hans Peter Larsen, born 27. Oct. 1868 in Damsholte Parish, Moen, Praestoe County, Denmark, left Denmark around 16. Feb. 1887 for Sao Paulo with a non-direct ship. He was then single.
My wifes great-grandmother, Laurine Petrine Larsen (or Lassen), born 3. Nov. 1871, in Fuglslev Parish, Randers County, Denmark, as only daughter and first child of Jens Peter Larsen (or Lassen) and wife Ane Cathrine Larsen. She had three younger brothers Johannes, Laurits, and Marcus.
Her father Jens Peter Larsen was born 27. Jan. 1844 in Thiset Parish, Aarhus County, Denmark.
Her mother Ane Cathrine Larsen was born around 1849 somewhere in Denmark.
Her brother Johannes Larsen was born 1878-1879
Her brother Laurits Larsen was born 1880-1881
Her brother Marcus Larsen was born 7. May 1883 in Tirstrup Parish, Randers County, Denmark.
The whole family left Denmark around 22. Feb. 1887 for Sao Paulo with a non-direct ship. It is told in the family, that only the parents and the three sons left Denmark at that time, because the daughter was too young to travel, and we have only been able to find documentation for the departure of the parents and the sons, but my guess is, that the daughter travelled along with the rest of the family, as she was the eldest of the children and must have been about 16 years of age.
Were they lived after arrival in Sao Paulo, we don't know. We do know, that Hans Peter Larsen, who left Denmark as single, and Laurine Petrine Larsen was married and for some years lived in Rua Ferreira Penteado nr. 91 in Campinas, where Hans Peter Larsen possibly had some kind of a store or a smithy. Some in the family also say, that he had a coffe-plantation.
During their marriage they got 6 children:
Roberto Victor Larsen, son, born 12. Sep. 1891 in Campinas (my wifes grandfather)
Anna Dorthea Larsen, daughter, born 1893 in Campinas
Augusta Joanna Larsen, daughter, born 23. Aug. 1896 inCampinas
Eleonora (or Elisnora) Amanda Larsen, daughter, born 1898 in Campinas
Pedro Eduardo Larsen, son, born 13. Nov. 1900 in Campinas
Dorthea Bernadine Larsen, daughter, born 7. Oct. 1904
According to death-certificate issued by Doctor Clemente de Toffali in Campinas, Hans Peter Larsen died on the 11. Nov. 1908 of a cerebral hemorrage, but in the family there are two other stories. Some say, that he shot himself and others say, that he was killed by some bandits, who handcuffed him in the store, dragged him out on the street and shot him.
In the late 1980's a grandson to Hans Peter Larsen travelled to Campinas, and according to what is told, he found the grave and talked to some older people, who remembered the incident, and who had attended the grave, so that it was still nice and proper. Unfortunately this grandson died shortly after returning to Denmark.
It is told, that after the death of Hans Peter Larsen, his widow and children fled back to Denmark. We have a ship-ticket for vessel "Petropolis" from Santos to Hamburg in Germany issued 14. May 1909 in the name of the youngest son Pedro Edouardo Larsen, and we assume, that the rest of the family travelled with him. It is told, that Laurine Petrine Larsen braught the handcuffs, that had been jused to handcuff her husband, back to Denmark, but they have unfortunately disappeared.
She intended to return to Campinas after a while to sell their property, but then the 1. Worldwar startet and delayed the journey, but according to Visa she left Denmark on the 1. March 1919 to travel to Campinas. She succeeded in selling all their property, but according to family saying, the Government of Brazil wouldn't allow her to take the money out of the country, so she left again empty handed. Her Visa is stamped by ROYAL DANISH CONSULATE GENERAL in Rio de Janeiro on the 16. April 1919, and by REPUBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRAZIL in Rio de Janeiro on the 29. April 1919, and by BRITISH CONSULATE GENERAL RIO DE JANEIRO SEEN GOOD FOR UNITED KINGDOM (en route for Denmark) on the 30. April 1919.
It is told that she left Brazil around the 23. May 1919 onboard english ship named "Dresna".
When she and the children left Campinas, her three brothers stayed. According to one of the children, the eldest brother, Johannes Larsen, made sticks and umbrellas. He never married and had died, when Laurine returned in 1919. The second brother Laurits (called Lau) was a blacksmith and married a very beautiful native girl named Tervina, and they had at least 2 sons. The third brother Marcus Larsen had several occupations, amongst them was a Circus. He married a spanish girl named Maria and had at least one daughter. Maria's parents had a factory that made coffee-sacks.
Does anyone have ideas (web-sites, e-mails, adresses) to, how to get more information of the time they lived in Campinas, how Hans Peter Larsen really died, getting information of the brothers and perhaps tracing their descendents.
