The Hornsberger/Herold b. (1847/1853) family lived in the Banat area of Austria-Hungary in a town called Zichydorf which is about 85 K NE of Belgrade. With the borders changing due to war, this town has had the name changed quite a number of times. It is now in Serbia and called Veliko Plandiste.

Before moving to Austria-Hungary we have traced the Hornsberger family to Bad Kreuznach i. Rheinland-Palatinate, Germany. Prior to that we believe they came from Alcase Lorraine, although I have not been able to find documents yet.

I had information when I first started genealogy that a Hornsberger family had been traced back to Switzerland but at the time it was too far removed for me to get into and of course over time the web sites were removed and now I can't locate the family. I believe the family settled in the southern USA.

I understand that the Hornsberger/Herold family didn't have enough money to get passage to Canada or USA so in 1899 they took a 5 year contract on the cotton fields in Brazil to earn enough money to go to Canada or USA. Finally, in September 3, 1903 they had enough money for their son (Adam Hornsberger), wife (Maria Felgel) and baby (Katherine) to leave Sao Paulo, Brazil for North America. They sailed on the Tennyson leaving from the port of Santos.

The rest of the family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina as one of the daughters Margaretha was married and had moved their. When their second daughter, Katherina, married they finally felt they could leave for North America, as the two girls now had each other and their own families. From information I have found, the two girls married names were Heil and Hahn but I cannot find the records to see which girl married who.

Adam Hornsberger and Magdalena with their two youngest children Magdalena and Joseph moved to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1912.

I would like to find descendants of Hornsberger/Hahn and Hornsberger/Heil in Buenos Aires, as the son of Joseph is in his 80's and would love to get in touch with his cousins. I am related to the Hornsberger ancestors in Austria-Hungary but our line came directly to Canada.
