JOHN ARMITAGE-Southey's "Hist.of Brazil"

Would anyone have any information on John Armitage who lived in Brazil from about 1831 until about 1837 and wrote a continuation of Southey's "History of Brazil" as well as a poem, "O Fluminense". He was sent out to Brazil from England to work for a Manchester shipping co.
Thereafter travelled to Ceylon where he married and set up business in Colombo.
