He seems to be a rather mysterious character. You have probably seen that he arrived twice in New York from Pará (as recorded on Ellis Island website), yet he gives his contact as a "relative" in Rio de Janeiro.

On the second occasion (24 May 1922 on POLYCARP) he is described as a "merchant" age 43 (three years younger than he was the year before!). He records his earlier visit as "four months to 18/2/1922" - which fits with his arrival 25 Oct 1921 on DELAMBRE - and it is noted that he had been "20 years in Brazil".

On both occasions he stayed at the Hotel America on 47th St, New York City (the "in transit" in 1921 must be an error).

Deputy Almeida, whom he travelled with in 1921 was from Manaus and the pair of them seemed to have been on American (rather than Brazilian) Government business.

Meanwhile, another event puts Marco do Panigai in Manaus. In June 1906 he accompanied President Afonso Pena on an official visit to Amazonas as a photographer. What seems like a large collection is in the National Archives in Rio de Janeiro (70 of them, picturing Manaus, were exhibited there a few years ago).
