Dunham - Ducameron
Dear Friends,
In the research of my ancestral Dunhams I have found the marriage register of George Felix Dunham and Angélica Gertrudes de Jesus in January10th,1827, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. That record indicates that GFD was natural of France and his parents were George Dunham and Eugenia Ducameron. From their names I have identified my family line with one of the "Deacon" John Dunham who settled at the Plymouth colony about 1630.His second son with Abigail Ballou, Jonathan Dunham, settled in Martha's Vineyard island where my American Dunhams ancestors lived just to the first half of the 19th century.
My line of Dunham ancestors is the following:
1) "Deacon" John Dunham - Abigail Ballou
2) Jonathan Dunham - Mary Cobb
3) Jonathan Dunham - Esther Norton
4) Cornelius Dunham - Jemina Norton
5) Shubael Dunham - Lydia Chase
6) George Dunham - Eugenia Ducameron
7) George Felix Dunham - Angélica Gertrudes de Jesus
8) Henrique Valentim Hancock Dunham - Ida Carolina Brinkmann
9) José Valentim Dunham - Rosaria Martins de Sá
10) Ida Angélica Dunham - Antonio Pereira Caldas
11) Antonio Geraldo Dunham Pereira Caldas - Anair Montet (my parents)
George Felix Dunham was recorded in immigration in Rio de Janeiro in 1832. Beyond his physical description it indicates that he was an US citizen and "Navy Officer".The inhabitants of Martha's Vineyard, including the Dunhams, used to be mariners.GFD grandfather (Shubael Dunham) was "Master Mariner" while his great-grandfather (CorneliusDunham) was Sloopmaster.
The point that I am trying to elucidate at the moment is the marriage of George Dunham (born in 1767 at Tisbury, Dukes, Martha’s Vineyard) with Eugenia Ducameron (born in 1771, possibly in France). This marriage could have take place in France about 1792, since their children Henry and George (my ancestor) were born there respectively about 1793 and 1795.
The Ducameron surname is extremely rare, seeming to be a French form derived from the Scottish last name Cameron (Du Cameron). With this surname I found the Scottish rebel John Du Cameron who served as lieutenant in the French army and returned to Scotland in 1745, being executed in Perth in 1753. I would very much appreciate if somebody could give some clue about this Eugenia Ducameron, especially where in France could have she lived.
Best Regards
