Richard Braziel was born between 1760 - 1785. He died interstate in Fairfield Co. SC. Court papers identified his wife Margaret and one son William.
William was born ca. 1805 in SC. He married Marie Dunn about 1828 in SC. Marie was born ca. 1810 and Charity Dunn may have been her mother as she is listed living next to her in the 1850 Fairfield Co. SC census. William was listed as a planter on census reports and often the Braziel named was spelled in different ways. The children of William & Marie: All believed born in Fairfield Co. SC.

Richard Vanburen Braziel enlisted in the Cofederate Army in 1861 in Fairfield Co. SC. He served the duration of the war with Company -C-, 12th SC infantry known as McGowan's Brigade.
He returned to SC and married Mary T. Hollis on 04/19/1865. Mary was born in SC on 12/05/1845. Her mother Elizabeth was listed as living with them in the 1880 Marion Co. SC census. Mary died on 04/05/1887 in Marion Co. SC.

5...Richard Marion, 04/21/1874 Fairfield Co. SC - 12/04/1964 Norfolk, VA. He married twice, Margaret Thomas & Fannie Gallup. Children were, Lillie Mae, William Howard, Margaret.

7...Clarence Fitzhugh, 02/13/1879 York Co. SC - 11/12/1962 Edgecombe Co. NC. He married twice, Patty Mae Avent & Anna Pearce. Children, Clarence Hampton, Percy Avent, Pattie Lucille, John, Henry, Margaret, Mary Elizabeth,& Fithue Spencer.

10..Leonard Ulysses, 08/09/1884 Marion Co. SC - 05/29/1941 Norfolk, VA. He married twice, Beulah Hughes & Ester Curtis. Children, Essie Marie.
After the death of Mary, Richard married Bessie Jeffers 01/17/1888 in SC. Bessie was born in Fairfield Co. SC 03/26/1857 and may be the daughter of Richard L. Jeffers and Elizabeth _______ . Richard & Bessie moved to Edgecombe Co. NC where 4 children were born and she died 05/16/1897. Children of Richard & Bessie:

13..Joe Percy, 03/23/1893 Nash Co. NC - 06/16/1966 Nash Co. NC. He married twice, Maggie Barnes & Mary Lena Cockrell. Children, (all by Mary). Willie McNeil, Bollie Mashall, Ruby Lee, Mary Rose, Nannie Mae, Bessie Cleo.
14..Eliza May, 10/26/1895 Nash Co. NC - 01/1987 Martin Co. NC. She married Robert Ernest Rackley. Children, Eunice Virginia, Nerie, Erline Mae, Olin Keith, & Horace Thurston.
Richard Vanburen Braziel died near Middlesex in Nash Co. NC on 03/07/1907. He is belived to have been buried at Sandy Cross Methodist Church Cemetery.
