I don't know yet where this Brazel/Schaefer family settled when they came to America. Anna Hoerrmann Brazel Schaefer also had a daughter, Christina Catharina Barbara Brazel who remained in Germany and a son, Johann Christoph Franz Brazel who remained in Germany (Bibersfeld, Wuerttemberg). This son had 2 sons and 2 daughters who came to America. I have finally located a son, Michael Johann Brazel b. 15 Aug 1852 in Bibersfeld. He immigrated to America according to the Bibersfeld church records in 1882. The 1900 NY census confirms this. He is listed in Queens with his wife, Louisa and their 2 daughters: Elizabeth and Katie. The Bibersfeld church records report the death of Michael Johann's brother, Johann Michael 5/4/1861-3/29/1931. He died in Michelfeld (about 2K from Bibersfeld), but it mentioned that he had been living in Brooklyn. Because my relatives came to the Midwest, I would have thought that the Brazels came to the Midwest, but since their nephews settled in New York, maybe that is where they lived.
To reply to your question, I don't know if we're related. There certainly are many more Irish Brazels than German Brazels! I'll keep looking. Let me know if you get any more names.
