Thanks thats good information to know, because I've been studying and memorizing these earliest of DEEDS in BRA** research and the entire area the circles the Orange/Halifax/Johnston/Chatham/Wake, etc.....counties that all cluster in that area of NC between the years of 1740-about 1780....all of those BRASWELLS appear to stem from the same line(s).
The name VALENTINE as a given name appears in Halifax as late that I've seen around 1760-70. Meanwhile a Valentine died in Wake Co NC in the 1790s.......while the Valentine JR died in Chatham co NC BEFORE (both CHATHAM and WAKE were cut from ORANGE in the same year of 1770). Meanwhile the Chatham Co NC Valentine "V" Braswell left and moved to Wilkes co GA around 1780, along with Benjamin Braswell and his wife MAry (suspected Brantley maiden name).
I'm trying to keep an eye on these earlier Valentines who have little information known about them. There are currently no known children attributed to the Wake Co Valentine (Although he's been canceled out as father to my Valentine Braswell of Newberry SC born 1773-74) because the Wake Co NC Valentine as NO male slash mark to account for my Valentine in his 1790 Wake Co NC census and since my Valentine Braswell, AT HIS OLDEST possible age in 1790 was 17 years old, he does NOT show as head of a household in the 1790 Greenville SC census (as some previous research suggested back in the 60s) INSTEAD he must be a SLASH mark in one of the BRASWELL census records from (what I've determined ) is somewhere connected to areas of known VALENTINEs such as HALIFAX...(still an option)......WAKE is NOT and option any more........the Chatham Co NC Valentine "V" Braswell (still an option since in his 1790 EDGEFIELD SC CENSUS record he does has a male slash mark AND he's close to Newberry SC), the GREENVILLE SC BRASWELLS who have plenty of male slash marks in their census records to account for my Valentine and since the previous work on that line shows a flaw with a remaining JOHN BRASWELL still living on the Tyger River in Greenville/Spartanburg SC as late as 1828) that means there could be more flaws in that work and my Valentine might be a slash mark in one of the 1790 Greenville SC BRASWELL census records.........OR and finally my Valentine Braswell could have been son to the D'cd David Braswell who married Nancy Rutherford, as David Braswell and Nancy Rutherford were married for 20 years and have only one known child...William Braswell who died in NEwberry SC.
So when it comes to the details of information posted on the web, I thank any and all who transcribe and contribute, but once I start digging further it is necessary to obtain copies of any and ALL originals because transcripts are snippits of information while the entire document holds more clues for solving this puzzle.
Since I am branched out in Halifax NC, Chatham NC, Edgefield SC and Greenville SC, it is important for me to obatain as much info in these areas with any and all BRASWELLS and affiliated surnames as possible which includes obtaining copies of any and all documents with snippits of info from these areas...........so thank you very much for explaining why Edgecombe Deed Book 5 page 462 doesn't actually exist in Edgecombe, that helps and now I think I can get copies of the originals from those earlier transcribed docs found on the web.
