I have a book by Margaret M. Hofmann titled "Abstracts of Deeds Edgecombe Precinct, Edgecombe County, North Carolina 1732 through 1759. On page 209 of this book is the following:

Deed Book 5, pg. 462 SAMPSON WILLIAMS of Edge. Co. to SAMUEL WILLIAMS of Edge. Co., 4 Mar. 1744, 30 pounds Va. currency, 320 acres on the north side of Tarr river and both sides of the mouth of the Cypress creek whereon VALENTINE BRASWELL now lives. Wit: MOURNING BRASWELL X her mark, WILLIAM WILLIAMS Reg. (place and date not given) R. Forster C.Ct.

In Edgecombe County North Carolina County Court Minutes 1744 thru 1762 Book I by Weynette Parks Haun on page 7 she cites page 27 of the original court records as follows:

A Deed of Sale from SAMPSON WILLIAMS to SAML. WILLIAMS was provd. by the oath of WM. WILLIAMS & Ordd. to be Recordd.

I hope this information helps.
