The John L. BRASSFIELD who was the son of Abner BRASSFIELD was b. ca 1831 in MO and md. Elizabeth E. ROBERTS, 22 Feb 1851 in Newton Co., AR.According to my notes, they had only five children:

GALYEAN, 1873 in Newton County.

GALYEAN, 1873 in Newton County.The 1870 US census of Newton County shows a John BRASSFIELD (b. ca 1812, TN) with wife, Elizabeth (b. ca 1828, TN) and eight children: George W., Levi G., Reuben, Mahala, Genette, Gilbert T., Alfred C and Thomas W. BRASSFIELD.They are recorded just a few households away from John L. BRASSFIELD's father, Abner BRASSFIELD (b. ca 1808, TN).According to "Brasfield-Brassfield Genealogies" (McAllister, 1959), this John was Abner's younger brother.I do not have a copy of that section of the book, so I have no further info.I hope this helps.More Replies:
