According to "Brasfield/Brassfield Genealogies" (by Annabelle C. McAllister and Edward N. McAllister, Edward Brothers, Inc., Ann Arbor, MI, 1959):

John BRASSFIELD is assumed to be the son of Joseph Leonard BRASSFIELD, possibly of England. John was living in Claiborne Co., TN, in the early 1810s. His children:

1. James (d. c1849 in Grundy Co., MO)
2. Abner (see below)
3. John (b. c1812)
4. [Unknown male] -- father of Barns Adam BRASSFIELD

---------------------------------

The following is from my own research on the GEE family:

Lucinda GEE, d/o Robert GEE and Nancy HATWOOD, b. c1812 in TN; last known to be residing in Newton Co., AR, in 1870 (census); bur. Searcy Co., AR.

She md. Abner BRASSFIELD, 17 Apr 1828 in Chariton (now Randolph) Co., MO. He was b. c1808 in Chattanooga, Rhea (now Hamilton) Co., TN; d. after 1870; bur. Searcy Co., AR.

Based on Randolph Co., MO, probate records (v. A/156), Robert GEE had 12 surviving children in 1829. Although only seven were identified, the evidence suggests that Lucinda was among the unnamed heirs.

One *Cinderella* GEE married Abner BRASSFIELD in Chariton County just one month after the marriage of Robert's son, Aaron GEE, in 1828. US census records show that Lucinda BRASSFIELD was born at a time and place consistent with the migration of Robert GEE. In addition, Robert's son, John GEE, was one of the administrators of the estate of James BRASSFIELD (Abner's brother) in Grundy County in the late 1840s.

The family was residing in Polk Co., MO, at the 1840 US census and later moved to Carroll County, where Abner paid taxes in 1844. On 04 Aug 1848, Abner purchased 40 acres of land in Grundy County from Elizabeth Nancy GEE (v. C/192). Patented to John GEE (Elizabeth's father) in 1839, this land was located in the so-called Poosey community about 2 miles southwest of present Hickory, MO. Grundy County deed records (v. C/414) show that Abner and his wife, *Lynda*, sold same to Ebenezer NEFF, 17 Aug 1849.

By Oct 1850 (census), the family had moved to White Twp. in Newton Co., AR. Abner appears on Newton County tax rolls in 1852 with one horse, and again in 1868 with three cattle.

The 1860 US census shows John L. BRASSFIELD (s/o Abner) in neighboring Pope County, just 10 lines away from Samuel GEE (Lucinda's nephew).

I would love to add to the *history* of this family!
