I do not know where or when I came up with Gowan as William's middle name. It is possible that I took it from the IGI since there is several William Gowan Brashears listed and each one has him married to Mary Elizabeth Clayton. If this is incorrect, I will remove it from my files. I am aware there is a lot of misinformation in the IGI files, but since William and "Marley" had a son they named William Gowan, I guess I thought that was William's name also.
I am researching the Clayton line and have been unable to go back further than 1790. I have found some Gowens on the 1755 Tax List for Granville Co. NC as well as a Jeremiah Clayton and on the 1762 Tax List for Granville Co. NC there is listed a James, William and John BRAISHER with a "Mullatore Girl - Bingham. This puts all three names in the same place at about the same time. William and Marley's son William Gowan strengthens my belief that Marley is some how related to my Gowan Clayton.
As for Nancy Brashears, I was not aware that she was married prior to her marriage to Solomon Clayton. I will send you Nancy's children's information by snail mail.
Do you have any information about William being married to an Indian woman before he married Mary Elizabeth. I have seen this infomation somewhere and Ithra was their son.
Please reserve one of your vol 7 books for me. Thanks for your help, Betty Hilton
