Yes I think there is a link. The earliest in our line I can definitely identify is Alexander Brash died 1800 married to Isabel Gillies. He had a brother Robert.

from here back I am relying on Ken Stewart's information on http://members.iinet.net.au/~kjstew/Brash5.htm

I believe Robert and Alexander were sons of Robert Brash (1723-1754) and Margaret Marshall (1719-)
and Robert was son of John Brash and Christian Williamson (and had a sister Jonet
and John Brash was a son of another John Brash who had 3 sons and a daughter, James, John, George and Helen.

I think that this James was your James who married Jean Hamilton - do you?

As for the Gillies I have not been able to find any link between John Gillies who married Agnes Bauld and my line of Gillies.

Phyllis
