Branum/Dunn TN GA AR Civil War era-1930
I am looking for the parents of Christopher Columbus Branham [b. January 04, 1848] and Mary Ann Dunn [b. 1851]. There is a Mary Ann DUNN whose father is Daniel Richard "Moje" Dunn. I do not think this my Mary Ann DUNN, because she married someone other than my great grandfather, Christopher Columbus Branham/Brannam and she was married only once. It is possible that Chris married someone in Texas.
My grandmother writes about her parents [Mary Ann Dunn and Christopher Columbus Branham]:
From "Looking Back" by Clero Evelyn Brannam Huckelbury:
"There had been no schools all through the [Civil] War nor immediately thereafter but at length a sort of boarding school was reopened in an old academy several miles from my mother's home [supposedly on the Conasauga River].She attended that school, and there she met my father [Christopher Columbus Brannam].His home was some 20 miles from my mother's at Old Fort, Georgia [This has to be Old Fort, Polk County Tennessee not Georgia].His parents were Jesse Brannam and Rachel Haigher [Hagler] Brannam [Branham] Jesse Brannam was Irish, [don't know if this means he was an immigrant].Christopher's home was at Old Fort, Georgia. He [Jesse] and his eldest son [unknown] were with the Northern Army.He [Chris] was third in a large family. His family had been slave holders. He [Christopher] was drafted in the Southern Army at the age of 16 and served the last year of the Civil War with the Southern Army. His father [Jesse] and elder brother [George] were with the Northern Army.Their home was only three miles from the battlefield of Chickamauga Hill.Any way, he and my mother met at this school and by the time school closed they were planning to be married; but first my father made a trip west coming as far as Little Rock. Now all the men in my father's family worked with metal; he became a locomotive engineer, repaired watches, gins, sawmills - any kind of machinery,"
Chris and Mary's old home place was on the Conasauga River directly across the river from her parent's plantation [unknown Dunn family] for the first six years of their marriage.
The Branham family was said to "own" Lookout Mountain" in TN at one time. Some researcher told me that the Branham family never moved from VA, but the states moved away from them becoming WVA and Kentucky.
Clero [second daughter of Christopher C. Branham and Mary Ann DUNN] was born August 23, 1873 in Old Fort, near the Tennessee border. She came to Arkansas when a young girl in the 1870's in a covered wagon with her parents, her Dad's brother, George Branham, and her sister, Cora.
