Claudia,

Most of the current Brandstetters in America descend from more recent immigrants than the Branstetters. Nearly every descendant of the two early immigrants, Johann Friedrich and Jacob have dropped the "d."

I suspect you are right in that your ancestor (not many generations back) arrived directly from Germany to (Texas)this country. Germany and Austria have many Brandstetters today. About 1900 there were some in Missouri who had been born in Europe.

I have studied nearly all of the settlements of Branstetters in the country and compiled 20,000 descending relatives of the Johann Friedrich Brandstetter. Yes he had a "d" when he arrived.
