Here is what I have on Mary Branstetter Ford. To the Honorable the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee the petition of Mary Ford respectfully represents to your honorable body that upwards of twenty years ago she intermarried with one Loid Ford of Sullivan County with whom she bore said Ford eight children during her _________ with him as a wife he beat her on many occasions with great cruelty and offered many indignities to her person all of which she submitted to on account of her children his conduct ultimately became so intolerable that she could bear it no longer and as a shield against his violence and abuse she petitioned the Circuit Court of Sullivan County for a divorce from bed and board Which in the March term of said Court in the year 1827 was decreed to her your petitioner & her children for many years labored hard to acquire property ________ but he would always squander it so it was with the up most difficulty that they could live some short time before the divorce Your petitioner's father Frederick Branstetter departed this life in Sullivan County intestate leaving considerable Real & Personal Estate a child's part of which your petitioner is entitled to her said husband still continues to ________ harass and afflict your petitioner & her children property acquired by her & her children's labor he takes and uses at pleasure he is endeavoring to embarrass the estate which decinded to her at the death of her father claiming to be her husband in short he does every thing in his power to render miserable your petitioner & her children He is withall a drunken worthless man and not worth _________ He has since the divorce threatened to take the life of your petitioner and take everything she has his conduct in every respect is so bad that she never can agree to live with him as a husband her _____ happiness and welfare of her children forbids it the finances considered she prays your honorable body to dissolve the bonds of matrimony heretofore existing between them and render her in all respects a Feme Sole your petitioner accompanies this petition with a copy of the decree & C of the Circuit Court Mary Ford We do certify the facts stated in the foregoing petition we believe them true and that the petitioner in all respects supports the character of a _____ Religious Woman so far as we are informed Benjamin Shipley John D Delaney Jacob K Snapp Lawrence Snapp Henry Branstetter Jacob Sturm Frederick Sturm Wm Anderson This came from the following source: [http://www.branstetterfamily.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=66&Itemid=67] I have not been able to find the first name of Magdalene Branstetter's husband who was also a Ford.
