Despite long standing belief that these were Quaker Bransons from NJ, after many years of research I have concluded that they come from one immigrant, Thomas Branson with Primitive Baptists spread through all his descendants. Thomas immigrated in 1651 and by 1662 had married Ann. Thomas died by 1685.
Thomas and Ann's children sued her 2nd husband for their estate. Their children were Garrot Branson, Mary Branson, Michael Branson and John Branson.
Michael was born after 1678 and John was born Oct 1683. The step father obtained guardianship over them. The ages of Garrot and Mary are unknown but since Thomas and Ann were married in 1662 it would be after that.
I have not determined if Garrot married or if he had children. Michael is supposed to have been the father of Absolom Branson born 1740. I believe Michael was also the father of a John that died in 1770 and had 8 children including children that lived in Washington Co, VA, IL and used the Brisco name. From census it appears that Michael may also have been the father of a Thomas who in turn quite possibly fathered Jared Branson.
The youngest child John died in 1768. He had 2 sons: John born 1710 and Leonard born after 1735 by different wives. Son John had a son born 1738. I am working on confirming that this lineage went to Stokes, NC.
In this 2nd or 3rd generation there is a Leonard and a Benjamin old enough to be creating debts in 1718/1725 and possibly an Abraham who may have been offspring of the oldest Garrot or Michael.
