I just noticed your query yesterday and did a little digging last night. In the Branscum family book, written by Fred Tubbs, John Wesley Branscomb is mentioned. There is about a page of information on him and his wife (some question as to whether her last name was Lair or Lear). Unfortunately, Fred did not track John Wesley after his departure from Wayne Co., KY. However, Fred does state the following:

"Rhonda Woodard in Oklahoma City contacted me [Fred] in November 1994 concerning the possibility that her ancestors John Wesley & Elizabeth Branscomb might have been this John and this Eliza. Her ancestors went to Oklahoma, and a family story suggests that John Wesley may have been killed there by Indians. Their children, according to Rhonda, were Barney, Betty (md. Anderson Taylor), Mary (md. ___ Harris), Ann, and James Harrison. Further research would be required to prove the connection between this John Wesley Branscomb and the children of Thomas & Barbara [of VA]."

Robert, you might want to contact Rhonda, if you don't know her. If you would like to see if Fred has her address, let me know.

Moe
