Your web site is very interesting.
My question to you is did any of these people of "Mediterranean" descent remain in the eastern part of the state of VA?To have reached the mountains from the coast, they would have had to have traveled through most of the state.Do you have any info indicating that perhaps some of them, during the journey, married Tidewater VA area American Indian women and REMAINED in the east?
My husbsand is from SW VA.He is kin to the Branham and Willis families and he has that knot at the base of his skull!Thankfully, he seems to not have any unusual disease. He said he has heard about the "Portuguese" sailors who jumped ship and settled in the mountains, as he describes them, all of his life.
This Branham family and my Evans family originally settled in the same general part of Tidewater VA before his line of the Branham family moved to the mountains in the late 1700s.My branch of the Evans family remained in Tidewater VA, so I do not know if my Evans family is of "Mediterranean" lineage.
I think research is fascinating, where ever it leads or dead ends.
Thank you.
