OK Mary, I’m baaaack! And we’re on the same page almost all the way ‘round, I think. Questions: 1. David s/o David as-we-believe - the 1795 will says “my brother Wm. Brandon’s two sons Samuel and Smith,” you say? I’m stumped by this as William Byrd Brandon had a single son named Samuel Smith Brandon, didn’t he? Have you seen the actual will? 2. Can you translate “162 Bk. 3, Inv. App. b. Bk. 6 page 7 Acc Bk 6 pg 117?” What’s the small “b” after Inv. App.? (I’ll be in Richmond late July and plan on getting true copies of all the wills.) 3. Mom Rebecca’s 1800 will – you have “My husband David Brandon of Wynns Creek.” What’s with that wording? He died twelve years previously. The abstract just says w/o David. Is it a partial sentence referring to their land? You also end with the date 11/22/1790. Is that the date the will was actually filed, or written, or what? 4. Not a question, a huzzah! I also agree that Linda Womack, Kathryn Brandon, Larry Brandon’s old site, Bill Brandon’s and the Arlie Brandon Betts book all have mistakenly placed your William and Mary Langley Brandon under John M. Brandon (s/o William) instead of under Francis, Sr. In our “correct” position, his sister married another Langley and he joins his family's migration to Gwinnett Co, GA. Also, there is no William in John M.'s will. He is in Francis', and Francis is actually the one who goes bond for this marriage. As well, Septimus Taylor Jr. said they went to Gwinnet Co, GA with his Uncle William, according to Randall Fields, and he had no uncle William Taylor. I also, as many thousands of Brandons as I have in my databases, can see no Pennsylvania contacts from Halifax. The migration through the Shenandoah Valley south is probably the Brandon-Cathey-Lock/e wagon train. From Hanover Twp, Lancaster-now-Dauphin Co, PA, John Brandons Sr. and Jr. and their families of in-law Catheys and Locks headed for Rowan County, NC. They hooked up with other Cathey branches in Augusta Co, VA (Beverly Manor) who joined them before proceeding all the way. Dr. Henry Cathey’s sent me some Lawson genealogy to help out when I want to tackle their migrations but he sees a purely VA grouping although there are early Lawsons in PA. Irvines, too. Some of our Irvines (probably the Rowan NC ones though) are no doubt children and grandchildren of Margaret Cathey documented as m. Alex Irwin 1695 in County Monaghan, Ulster. She’s the older sister to Mary Cathey m. Rowan John Brandon, Sr. I’m building up steam again. Let me know if you have any Brandon requests to add to my Road Trip list to the archives. I’m going to Richmond and to Raleigh late in July. Best, Sally Notify Administrator about this message?
