Hi Alexander:

Information I have on the William Brand birth is as follows:

Christened in Birse 31 January, 1847.

Parents were: Alexander Brand and Margaret Lighton/Leighton
Alexander and Margaret were apparently not married.

Margaret Lighton was christened Birse in 1826.

Alexander Brand later married Jane Couper/Cooper in Birse in 1848.

William was raised by his grandpaents, William and Margaret (Rawer) Brand. He is shown living with them in both the 1851 and 1861 census.

Margaret Lighton/Leighton later married Peter Mitchell in Aberdeen in 1871, though her name is shown as Margaret Mitchell in William's marriage record in 1869.
