The early genealogy of the Brand family of Stonington, CT and Westerly, RI seems to be a bit controversial. I have poked around a bit since I posted that first response and have concluded that all of Benjamin Brand Sr's children were by his first and and only wife Rebecca Tanner. The vital records of Westerly clearly state that Amos, Lucy, Rebecca, Benjamin, Jr. and David were the children of Benjamin and Rebecca. As the last four were born after the marriage of a Benjamin Brand and Lucy Cottrell, it should be apparent that there were two Benjamin Brands in Westerly. The second Benjamin is the one who migrated to North Carolina and was the father of Thomas, William Warren and John.
There is also a question as to the wife of our Benjamin's father Thomas III. The only record of the marriage of Elizabeth Babcock states only that she married a Mr. Brand. I have seen his name as William Brand but I have found no other record of a William Brand in the Stonington/Westerly area at the time so it would seem more likely that she married Thomas Brand III. It is interesting to note that Thomas Brand, IV married Freelove Braman the daughter of Jane (Babcock) Braman. Jane Babcock was the sister of Elizabeth (Babcock) Brand making Thomas IV and Freelove first cousins (not an unusual occurance in rather closed early New England society.
Anyway here is what I have for the first four generations of the Brand family of Stonington and Westerly.

1. Thomas Brand was born in 1610 in Gravesend, Kent, England. He emigrated in 1629 from "Lyon's Whelp".

SECOND GENERATION
2. Thomas Brand was born about 1645 in Massachusetts. He died after 1680 in Stonington, New London Co., CT.
He was married to Sarah Larkin on 29 Oct 1672 in Connecticut. Sarah Larkin was born about 1655 in Stonington, New London Co., CT. She died after 1680 in Stonington, New London Co., CT. Thomas Brand and Sarah Larkin had the following children:

THIRD GENERATION
3. Thomas Brand was born about 1678 in Connecticut. He signed a will on 18 Jan 1762. He died in 1766 in Westerly, Washington Co., RI. He had an estate probated on 27 Oct 1766.
He was married to Elizabeth Babcock (daughter of Job Babcock Sr. and Jane Crandall) in 1699 in Westerly, Washington Co., RI. Elizabeth Babcock was born about 1681 in Westerly, Washington Co., RI. She died about 1720 in Westerly, Washington Co., RI. Thomas Brand and Elizabeth Babcock had the following children:

He was married to Mercy Babcock. Mercy Babcock died after 1733. Tobias Brand Sr. and Mercy Babcock had the following children:
