Brand Family Genealogy Forum

Perchance do you have information on a Brand family who lived in North Georgia, probably in Cherokee County. William Guy Brand, whose family owned a country store there, and my grandmother, Nellie Grey Long, were teenagers in love--she was just 16. My mother, Ruby, was the result. She was born in Cherokee County, GA in April, 1918.
Nellie's father, Monroe Long, a farmer, caught her and Guy as they were trying to elope in a two-seat carriage. It was not a pretty sight. Read: Guy was run off with a buggy whip, Nellie dragged back and kept confined to the farmhouse for her whole "confinement" and the two young lovers were forbidden to contact each other.
Guy saw his baby daughter only once, during a secret meeting on an Atlanta park bench, when she was six years old. He wept.
I would love to gather information for my 81-year-old mother, who was her mother's only child. It would be a wonderful blessing for such a long-ago young lovers' tragedy to finally gain closure in a happy and perhaps bring new blood relatives for my wonderful mother. Certainly, it would be helpful to have the additional familial health history.
Thanks so much for your attention to this posting. Sincerely, Dee Rivers
