This is only an abbreviated version: W. A. Brand, who as, was announced in last week's issue of the Citizen, died on Wednesday, May 14, 1879, was born in Union Township, Champaign county, O., July 9, 1837. At an early age he removed with his father's family to Urban, which continued to be his residence till death. He was educated at the public schools of this city and at the Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware. He studied law with Col. John H. James graduating at the Cincinnati Law School in the spring of 1858. soon after he formed a partnership wit te Hon. Moses B. Corwin which continued until the latter retired from parctice on account of age. July 12, 1859, he was married to Miss Frances R. Saxton, who survives him. Military: 66th O.V.I. Sept. 1861 enlisted Lt. Col and Regimental Quartermaster Resigned in Washington @ declaration of peace 1865 Purchased 1/2 interest in the Citizen&Gazette Newspapers. 1878 appointed Postmaster of Urbana, OH Memberships: IOOF, IORM, K of P, and OUAM Lodge (Redman) Father:Joseph Coulson Brand, Sr. Mother:Lavinia Talbott daughter of John and Margaret Siblings: Thomas Talbott Brand Joseph Coulson Brand, Jr. Margaret Belle Brand m William Reynolds Ross son of Philander B.
