Hello Kirk,
I apologize for the delayed reply.I didn't see your response to my post until I was trolling through re-gathering information for another assault on the Braman Lines, LOL.
To answer the Big Question, yes, another researcher found conclusive evidence that Nathaniel of Norton is also Nathaniel of Stafford. In 1736 he purchased land in Stafford from Nathan Day and is called "of Norton in the county of Bristol in the commonwealth of Massachusetts Bay." After he and I had tossed around various theories over a period of time, we agreed, based on his findings, that Nathaniel married a Mehetable Rude of Preston CT, and that they had at least one son, James (arrrgh! yet another James to sort out!).I cut and pasted excerpts from our e-mail correspondence and posted same in September 2011 on this forum and the Rootsweb/Braman Ancestry board. This summarizes what we think we know at this point.
I was aware of Nathaniel's being administrator of his brother James's estate, but NOT of the petition about the meeting house location which
you cited.Thank you very much!Anything which helps to pin down when Nathaniel was still (or was not) in Norton is a great help. There is no date attached to his marriage to Mehetable, and so any guesswork about their son's age is just that. And that son's age is important in establishing any relationship to the hitherto unassigned men Nathaniel of Hartford (prob. b about 1740), Daniel of East Windsor (b 1745) and Joseph of Elllington (?1750).
So, thank you again, and although the board has become very quiet, I will post if and when more facts come to light.
