I show Abraham Brachbuhl, b c 1695, husband of Elizabeth Burki b c 1700as the father of Isaac Brachbuhl, b April 4, 1721 in Langau-Emmantal, Canton Berne, Switzerland; d in April 1769 In Rocks Ga, Rockingham Co., VA.. Isaac m Marie Cathrine (?) in 1746 in Montgomery C0., PA. She also died in 1769.
Their children were: Elizabeth, b 1747; Christophel b July 24, 1748 (my ancestor); Barbara b 1755 (also my ancestor, she married John McGriff); Isaac, b 1767; Jacob, b c 1750.
Christophel married Mary ?, was the father of David, my gr-gr grandfather, b c 1770, father of David, b c 1790, d c 1840, married Lucy Norman. Their son John N. married Elizabeth Champion, their daughter Sarah married John F. Hawkins; their son was my father.
Lucy and David had several children. Their daughter Cynthia married Philip Hawkins, and their grandson Philip "Shuffler" Douglas was with eight major league ball teams, (a victim of the scandals of the early 1920s)was the tallest man and had the largest hands of any player in the major leagues. He struck out Babe Ruth during Babe's first game. There is a book on him, "One More Round for the Shuffler" which sheds some light on the family. He married a girl from the Swiss community in Franklin Co., TN.
I have a PhD but cannot figure out my scanner-when I do I will send you a copy of all I have. The name went from Brachbuhl to Brechbiel to Brakebill to Brakefield.
