Could this be my Indian ancestor? My mother was 1/8 (I think) Indian (Native American). She once told me that she thought our Indian ancestor was a man. We are white. Her name was Velma Louise Brake, born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 27, 1913. Her father was Benjamin Franklin Brake, born in Waverly, Tennessee, and married to her mother, Myrtle Stanley. I have a newspaper clipping announcing Myrtle's marriage to B. F. Brake "of Memphis," but the clipping does not include the name or city of the newspaper or the date. My mother had a brother, Benjamin Franklin Brake, Jr., and a sister, Mildred Brake, both younger than she. They both must have been born in Memphis and lived there their entire lives. They are all now deceased. My mother married my father, Charles Boswell Slaughter, in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1930 or 1931. I have one older brother and one younger. We were all born in Memphis but now live in Maryland (me), Florida (older brother), and California (younger brother).
