I would like to know the ancestry of NOAH BRAKE who was born 29 December 1842 and died in Upshur County, West Virginia 29 September 1888. He was probably born in the same area which would have been Lewis or Randolph County in 1842. I am also interested in genealogical data from any descendants of Alfred and Savina Jane (Sayre) Brake.
ALFRED REGAR BRAKE was born 29 April 1868, son of Noah Brake (29 December 1842-29 September 1888) and Ellen D. (Shreve) Brake (6 June 1845-28 April 1920). His name was often spelled “Alford”; he was listed as “Alpheus” in the 1900 Census. Noah and Ellen were buried in Waterloo Cemetery near French Creek, Upshur, West Virginia. Alfred married in Upshur County West Virginia 23 July 1888 Savina Jane SAYRE daughter of Jeddiah and Arah Jane (Proudfoot) Sayre. Following the death of Savina, Alford married 13 May 1899 ZEFFIE LAVERA SMITH, who was born in November 1872, daughter of George D. and Lydia Smith. Savina died of dropsy 6 September 1898, and Alfred died of apoplexy 28 December 1920. Burial was in Waterloo Cemetery.

1. CORDELIA ELEANOR (“ELLIE”) BRAKE, b. September 1891.
2. LOUIS RAY BRAKE, b. about 1894.
3. EDWARD BRAKE, b. about 1896; married 29 October 1917 LURA CRAWFORD who was born about 1895. They lived at Newlonton, along the Upshur-Randolph County border.
Children of Alfred and Zeffie (Smith) Brake numbered six, with three living (Vergie, Pearl, and Gracie) by 1910:
4. IVA E. BRAKE (March 1900-died young).
5. VIRGIE MAUDE BRAKE, b. 6 September 1902. She died 3 November 1962 with a cerebral hemorrhage.
6. PEARL MAMIE BRAKE, b. 12 March 1905; married ( ) MORRISON. (Upshur Birth Book 3, p. 156, line 16).
7. GRACIE BRAKE
8. FRANKLIN DEAMER BRAKE, b. 1913; d. 17 December 1979; married 9 January 1937 MABEL MAE COGAR.
