Julia, Sheila Shayler and I both want to contact you; she is descended from Brains in Oxford, and my husband is related to the William Brain that you mention. If he is related to you, then you are a distant cousin of my husband's. We would very much like to get in contact with you to learn more about a distant Brain cousin. My husband is Carlos Brain; he is descended from James Brain who emigrated to Chile/Peru in c. 1841. James would have been a first cousin to "your" William. This is what Sheila Shayler had to say (she used to be the secretary of the Oxford (can't think of the name, but it's the historical society):
Hi Jenny,
Have searched my records and the only William Brain I have found so far that
might fit the bill is William Brain baptised St. Thomas, Oxford on 30 Jun
1822.The son of William & Mary Anne.He was born on the 6th June.
This is the family we were looking at to see if there was any connection to
us.I have spent a long time trying to get in touch with Julia Waller with
no joy.Perhaps you might have some success.
Speak to you tomorrow
Sheila
She adds the following:
I have just looked at paperwork for William Brain.
It looks like he is definitely descended from the brother of your John
Brain. This William born 6.6.1822 son of William the butcher. He was
definitely married to an Emma in 1832 (I think that there is a problem with this date; I am asking Sheila about it) at Highworth Wilts.I have notes of 8
of their children born in various places.Looks to me if this could be
interesting to Julia Waller. If so, I think she would be definitely related
to you.
Hope you can contact her
Sheila
So, Julia, if you are descended from these Brains, then you are definitely related to my husband. Let's communicate through email instead of through GenForum: you may contact me at [email protected].
By the way, where do you live? Do you live in England? We live in Miami, Florida. My friend Sheila, also a Brain, lives in Southern England after having spent most of her life in Oxford.
