Excerpt from the book "A Century of Light" History of Brahan Lodge No. 226 A.F. & A.M. by D. L. Vest, 1959, PP. 169-170
Robert W. Brahan passed away on April 16, 1885, while preparing for a rip to Alabama and Mississippi to visit relatives. The funeral, conducted at the home of his son-in-law, Ed H. Cunningham (who twenty-five years before had recruited the soldiers for Company F of the Fourth Texas Regiment in Hood's Brigade), was well attended. The church services were conducted by the Right Reverend Robert W. Barnwell Elliott, who was the First Bishop of the Episcopalian Diocese of West Texas. From the Cunningham home, the body was taken to Concrete Cemetery and there, Congressman Columbus Upson of San Antonio, delivered a eulogy. In his tribute, Congressman Upson pointed out that Brother Brahan had been a Master Mason for forty-eight years and a Royal Arch Mason for thirty-seven years. He went on to say: "His religious faith was that taught in freemasonry, viz: the recognition of a Supreme Being; a belief in God and obedience to His Laws;love of God, love of man; faith in God, hope in immortality and charity towards all mankind".
On conclusion of the tribute, Brahan Lodge interred the body with the beautiful time honored ceremony of freemasons.
Following is an excerpt from page 224, "Century of Light".
A very solemn event was held June 7, 1958, when members who had died since the founding of the lodge were honored. The all-day meeting was opened by calling the roll of the deceased brethren and reading the dates of their deaths.Following the roll call, sixteen of the fifty members present proceeded to Concrete Cemetery where Robert S. Brown and Walker B. Sorell placed a wreath on the grave of Robert Weekly Brahan; and D.L. Vest read the funeral eulogy that had been given at the graveside of Brother Brahan just before he Masonic Ceremonies with which he was interred April 16, 1885.
