My g-g-grandparents, Joseph and Isabella Watt Bradfield emigrated from Yorkshire to Belmont County, OH in 1827, landing at Baltimore on June 18. Their children were Joseph b. 1804, Sarah b. 1808, Elizabeth b. 1809, Mary b. 1810 or 1811, and John b. 1813. They settled on a farm about 4 miles north of Barnesville, where Joseph and Isabella lived out their lives. Isabella was born in Scotland, and I have found a marriage record which may be theirs, dated 1802 in Dumfries Co., Scotland. I don't know what Joseph would have been doing up there, except that his home area had many textile mills as did the Dumfries area, and he may have been there for training or on business. John became a tobacco dealer in 1838 and was a prominent merchant, and descendants are found in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. His sons were also well known merchants. Joseph apparently died before 1860, leaving widow Jane. Sarah married Robert Murrey. Elizabeth married Isaac Barnes with whom she had 7 children, and some of their descendants are also in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. Mary married Patrick Coony, moved with him to Guernsey Co., then Perry Co., and on to Knox Co. Missouri. They were my g-grandparents. Notify Administrator about this message?
