Robert Carter Nicholas (1725-80) represented James City, Va., in the first House of Delegates,
member of the Committee of Safety, and chairman of the convention, 1775. He was born and died
in Hanover County, Va.
George Nicholas (1754-99) served as major of the 2nd Virginia regiment, 1777, and was
promoted colonel. He removed to Kentucky, where he became the first attorney general. He was
born in Hanover, Va.; died in Lexington, Ky.
John Smith (1722-94) was a member of the Committee of Safety of Baltimore, Md., and was
appointed by Congress to procure arms. He was a delegate, 1776, to the convention to frame the
first constitution. He was born in Ireland; died in Baltimore, Md.
William White enlisted, 1777, as sergeant, and at the siege of York held the rank of lieutenant. His
widow was allowed a pension in Hanover County, Va., 1839, for his service, Virginia Continental
Line. He was born in Virginia; died, 1812, in Caroline County, Va.
John Tyler served as lieutenant in the Continental Army from Virginia and received a grant of land
for his service. He was born in Prince William County, Va., and 1791, died there.
