Civil War story.....
The book "Laws Alabama Brigade" tells us that during the winter of 1863, the 48th Alabama Infantry Regiment participated in the "Great snowball fight", and quite a few errant snowballs found themselves flying in the direction of General Lee's headquarters.
Our Jesse M. Brackett, son of Benjamin Brackett and Susan Hubbard, served in the 48 Infantry during the war.
Our Jesse M. Brackett, son of Benjamin Brackett and Susan Hubbard, served in the 48 Infantry during the war.Seems that a fine snowfall found its way to Virginia and, just like Alabama boys, the 48th found out how much fun a good snowball fight can be.The 48th had even formed up their ranks and started on a march of several miles to blast away at one of their sister Regiments. On the way, someone in the ranks decided that General Lees quarters would make a good target, and the rest is history.
