Teresa:
My guess is that the year Levi Brackett died would have been 1864 as that was the year Andersonville was opened. By June 12, 1865, the war was over.If I recall correctly, there was another Brackett that died at Andersonville as well.
A few years ago, it was the Civil War, something that rarely crossed my mind, that got me interested in family research.A researcher of my line of Bracketts identified a Confederate army unit my GGgrandfather(her grandfather) served with.I checked it out, and found her to have misidentified the unit. One thing led to another, and now I can't quit looking for all the details.
Did you recieve my Email regarding my speculation that your Robert W. Brackett was a step-son of Robert Brackett, a brother to my GGgrandfather?Robert married Jemima Short Panther/Painter in May, 1861 was conscripted into the Confederate army in Aug. 1862, deserted in Aug. 1863, was tried and convicted in Nov. 1863 and died of disease at Salisbury Prison, NC on April 1, 1864.The really sad part of all of this was that, six days later, an order was issued releasing Robert Brackett and the eight men with whom he had deserted (including my GGgrandfather) back to their unit.I can send you a copy of this order if you are interested.
Regards
Robert
