Brackett Owen was the son of John Owen by his second wife
Phoebe Brackett as proven by John's 1767 will in Prince Edward
county, Virginia in which Brackett was named as executor.
John Owen's father has not been identified with any certainty.
Thomas Owen who died in 1744 in Henrico county is the popular
candidate since some evidence exists that John may have had a
brother named Thomas.William Owen who died in 1753 in
Halifax county and whose children included three named Agnes,
Lucy and Lidia (same as John) is the onomastic candidate.
One or more Johns Owen who were of age in the late 1600's and
early 1700's must also be considered as namesake possibilities.
