My Brackenridge family hails primarily from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, though my ggg grandfather, William Brackenridge, was born in Inch, Wigtownshire, in 1803 or so. He moved to Glasgow and had his children there, and his son, Thomas (b. 1839 Glasgow) moved to Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, and settled with Margaret Clark. Towards the turn of the century, the name was consistently written as BRECKENRIDGE, but it is just a phonetic spelling that stuck, as my grandfather was born Thomas Breckenridge Walker.
