I believe Edward Theodore Brace to be the son of William Brace and Susan Catherine Stafford of Allegany County, Maryland.
William was born 07 Aug 1825 in Wales or London, England; I do not know his parents' names, but he is likely a brother to Charles Brace, also of Allegany County, who was the father of Theodore Brace (b. 1834) the senator and judge in Missouri. William was a veteran of the Mexican War, and was employed by the B&O Railroad afterward. He was a lawyer and civil engineer in Cumberland, Maryland.
He married Susan Catherine Stafford 16 Oct 1849 in Allegany County, Maryland. She was born 1829 in Hampshire County, Virginia, the daughter of Joseph S. and Elizabeth Myer Stafford.
William and Susan had seven children--William Jr. (1850-1908); Mary (1852); Charles H. (1855-1928); Harrison C. (aka Daniel, 1858-1920s); Susan C. Hitchins Klives (1861-1911); Thomas (1863-1872); and Theodore (1870-1918). Mary and Thomas died as children.
William Brace died 15 Sep 1875 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. His wife and several children went to St. Louis between 1880 and 1900, where Susan died 17 March 1921.
William Brace Jr. served in the Maryland House of Delegates and the State Senate until 1886; in 1888 he moved to Chicago, where he died. His son William Brace III (1893-) was living in St. Louis in 1930.
Charles H. Brace was a doctor in Cumberland, Maryland all of his life.
Harry C. Brace was a journalist in St. Louis.
Susan married first Stanley Hitchins, and lived in Philadelphia in 1880; by 1900, she was the widow of Charles A. Klives, living in St. Louis, and the mother of two living children who have not yet been identifed.
Theodore, according to the biographical sketches included in various histories of Allegany County, Maryland, was in the wholesale clothing business in St. Louis until his death in 1918. Since the 1910 Census for St. Louis, Missouri, shows Edw. T. Brace (the one your post is about) as a clerk in a clothing store, born 1870 in Maryland, I find it highly probable that they are one and the same.
