I just did a quick look on Ancestry, and in the 1850 census there's a John M. Boylan born c. 1818 married to a Caroline born c. 1826. He's from PA, she's from MA, and they both live in Ft. Winnebago, WI.

In 1860 he's J.M. Boylan and she's Caroline C. Boylan. His job is "house joiner." There are no children listed, and they live in New Lisbon, WI.

Can't find 1870.

In 1880 they're still in New Lisbon, and John Boylan lists his father as being from NJ, and his mother from NY. He's now a farmer.

I don't know if this is your family, but it sounds close. Good luck!
