The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, February 23, 1905 MR. MONROE W. FISHER, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of this county, died at the home of his daughter, MRS. A. SCHRUM, in eastern Chariton on Friday noon, February 17, 1905, after an extended illness with a complication of diseases. But death was directly due to an attack of pneumonia. Funeral services conducted by Rev. M.G. Munn were held at the SCHRUM residence on Sunday forenoon at 10 o'clock after which the remains were interred in the Chariton Cemetery. MR. FISHER was 73 years and 9 months old and was born near Fisher's Point, Old Virginia. He came to this county in about 1860 and was married near Derby to MISS WESTFALL, who died thirty-five years ago. They were the parents of several children, only two of whom are living. They are MRS. J.W. BOYLAN and MRS. A. SCHRUM of this city. MR. FISHER served his country faithfully during the Civil War, being a member of the 34th Iowa Infantry. He was a member of the G.A.R. and that order attended the funeral services in a body. He was quiet and unassuming in disposition, with a kind and generous nature, and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He had a host of warm friends who will regret to learn of his death and who will extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing relatives. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert June 7, 2004 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm Notify Administrator about this message?
