Tragic Death of John A Boykin h/o Eugenia Bradford
Boykin family tragedy 1890s Mississippi .
According to Paul Boykins mother Eugenia `Deanie` Bradford Boykin Huffman,John A Boykin had to go to town so he was walking along when he came upon a rabid dog which tried to attack him, he was able to jumpupon a fence rail and avoid the mad dog, John got away from the dog and continued into town
On John `return trip, the rabid dog once again came up to John and John having no way to escape the mad rabid, the dog attacked him and bit him pretty bad.
John didnt say anything to any one until 9 days later when he began to feel ill and told `Deannie` about the rabid dog attack. He told `Deannie`go get help, get 4 strong men and tie me down to the bed posts, so I cant hurt you and not to give him water.
So Deannie ran to the neighbors and friends and brought them home to help tie down John and hold him down if need be, meanwhile Deannie sent thechildren to the neighbors. With friends andfamily standing by John died a terrible death caused by rabies he got from the rabid dog.
Unfortunately in those days there was no threatment for Rabies.
As told by JOhn A Boykins grandaughter Pauline Boykin dau. of Paul C Boykin. Pauline was told the story by her grandma Eugenia `Deannie` Bradford Boykin Huffman.
