I am trying once again to work on the ancestry of my elusive gg grandmother Nancy Jane Hansbrow and her brother C. John. Here is what I know about the two of them. C. John was born in 1842 in Illinois. On January 1, 1862 he joined the Union Army in Jefferson Co., IL, he was single at that time. He most likely remained single as he died "of disease" May 10, 1862 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The military records have him listed as Hanesbran, C. John At age 8 he and his sister Nancy Jane, age 5, were in the S. Boyd Family in the 1850 Wayne County Illinois Census. No Hansbrow adults were listed with this family. However, two pages over on the census for the same county is a relative most likely: 200/306 Hansbrow, John 70 m farmer VA S (J?) 52 f VA L. 16 f IL Virginia 14 f IL Pressley (?) 10 m IL I believe the Pressley here is the Presley Hansbrough that enlisted with C. John in the Union Army. All the information on the two men matches. In the 1860 Census for Jefferson Co., IL Nancy Jane is without her brother and listed in the 1860 Hickory Hill P.O., Jefferson Co., IL(June 15, 1860) Norman, John 48 m farmer TN Sarah 15 f IL Hansbro, Nancy J. f 15 IL Norman, Nancy 12 f IL Lafayette 10 m IL Jason 8 m IL Further research lead me to this family, which I am certain is part of my lineage one way or another. Jeheu Norman s/o Joseph Lafayette Norman and Hannah Jones Born: 1812 Sumner, Tennesee Died: 26 SEP 1882 Jeferson County, Illinois Spouse Emily J Hansbrough 1816 - 1858 Children James Jones Norman 1836 - 1896 John Norman 1838 - 1933 Mary A Norman 1839 Hannah Norman 1840 Sarah Norman 1844 Nancy Norman 1847 Lafayette Norman 1850 - 1917 Spouse Caroline1825 No children listed 1850 United States Federal Census about John Norman Name: John Norman Age: 12 Estimated birth year: abt 1838 Birth Place: Illinois Gender: Male Home in 1850 (City,County,State): District 10, Jefferson, Illinois Note the home prior to this is William and Delilah Haney family with Gregory families all around, family 512 in the same area is the Morias Hansbrough b. abt 1796 family from KY as well. John, Jeheu's father is family 299. With my Nancy and her brother John being at family 216 in the Boyd Family. These are all in districts 10 and 11. The Haney and Gregory Families are heavily intermarried with my Boykin line. 599/599 Norman, Jeheu 39 m farmer TN Emily J 34 f VA James 14 m IL John 12 m IL Mary 9 m (?) So far I've been able to determine that Nancy Jane married 3 times George M. (probably Mills) Boykin 24 Aug 1862 in Jefferson Co., IL they had 2 children Mills Allen and Mary Emma Boykin, then George disappears from the face of the earth. Second was Elias Wigginton, on 17 Nov 1868. They had one child Sarah E. Wiggington who was born after her father's death. Next was Samuel W. Webber, for years I thought it was Seth Ward Webber but subsequent research has lead me to believe it was Samuel she married not Seth. Samuel and Nancy Jane had 6 children: Marthula, John T., Minty A, Minny Belle, William Albert, and Julius E. Webber. Samuel Webber died in 1898 and is buried in the Boykin plot at Mt. Zion cemetery in Jefferson Co., Illinois. There is not grave stone for Nancy Jane there. In a petition to the court Minny Belle stated that there was NO WIDOW to lay claim to the estate of Samuel W. Webber. That leads me to believe she died prior to Samuel. Other than records that showed Nancy in dire straits. In the Jefferson County Genealogical Society publication Vol III, no 3 &4 May/ Aug 1996 listed in the article listed as Dr. Gregory's Probate Box, personal Estate-money's & Credits, notes and accounts due deceased and description of the same on page 65 of said publication we find Nancy J. Webber owing $8 and listed as in a desperate financial situation This is all I know about my ancestor. If anyone knows something about this line please help me figure out which Hansbrough male was Nancy's father. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
