Isaac and Robert Boyes were sons of Thomas Boyes and his wife Tryphena. Thomas and his family settled in Hillsdale, Columbia County, New York probably before 1790 as he is shown in the 1790 U.S. census as Thomas "Boaz". I think Thomas "Boaz" and Thomas "Boyes" are the same person. The household contained 11 people. In the 1800 U.S. census at Hillsdale, there is no Thomas Boaz enumerated, but there is a Thomas "Boyes" with 11 people in the family. The 1810 New York census also listed a Thomas "Boyce" living in Hillsdale, Columbia County, New York. Also, according to the publication, "Laws of the State of New York.: Vol. III-VI. Containing All the Acts Passed by the State of New York, pp. 376-77, Thomas "Boyes", was named as party (along with others) to a lawsuit dated April 2, 1803 described as "An Act for settling the Disputes and Controversies between the Representatives of John Van Rensselaer the elder, deceased, and the Possessors of Lands in the Town of Hillsdale, in the County of Columbia.

As it stands today, I don't know of any research that traces this Thomas Boyes back to the fact, I don't know at this point where this Thomas came from...and I am hoping there are other researchers out there who may have some leads on this question. It is possible that this Thomas Boyes may have been born near Loonenburg (now Athens), Greene County, New York although no proof of that yet exists. The following is an extract from the "History of Greene County, New York, J.B. Beers & Co., 1884, 482 pages"
page 172

"Baptismal Records of Zion's Lutheran Church, Athens."
"Dates that commence lines are those of births, unless otherwise specified. Baptisms are indicated by bp. The name immediately following the date is that of the child. The names of the parents follow the child, and the name of the place following is the birthplace or place of baptism."
page 175

"1737--Jan. 25 Thomas, Robert Boys, Lisabeth"

I have more informaton on Thomas Boyes if you're interested.
