Hi Joe (and any other Coventry Boyes researchers out there) John Heathcote Boyes (sometimes 'Boys'), was a Corporal in the 30th Regiment of Foot from 1805 to 1813. At the Seige of Badajoz in 1812 he lost his right leg and was invalided out in 1813 ... I have copies of his discharge papers from the NA. He had a wife and two children when he returned home to Exhall near Coventry in 1813 and they had five more kids before he became a widower about 1821. John remarried in 1823 and went on to have nine more children! Since he didn't die until after the 1851 census, I suspect he might have applied for the Military General Service 1793-1814 medal. I've put out a lookup request to see if he's on the rolls and what clasps he might have had beside Badajoz. Never know, someone out there might have the medal in their collection.
