I have finally uncovered part of the letter written by Joseph Boyd, s/o John Boyd of Union County, SC. For years people have claimed the John's wife was Jane Bernadoe. I have argued that she was not but was the wife of John Boyd of Newberry County, SC.
1) Jane Boyd, w/o John from Union Co. died prior to 1825 per the estate record of her son, David L. Boyd.
2) Jane Bernadoe Boyd, w/o John of Newberry Co. died in 1835 per her estate record from that county.
The following is the part of the letter which was found in my aunts papers. The original is probably in the papers of another aunt Ruth Brock Fuhrman.
Letter from Joseph Boyd, s/o John and Jane Todd Boyd, to his nephew, James L. Boyd:
"This August 13 1869
Dear Cousin James Boyd
I set myself to let you know that we are all well at the present time and your request to know the names of thosee people. My father was John Boyd and Jane Tod. Her fathers name was James Tod living in the north of ireland. The county of antrum parish gilade. Joseph[sic] Boyd clam his right from JamesTod and Jane Tod. They came to this country 5 yrs. before the Revolutionary war."
I offer this letter as proof positive and hope to lay this matter to rest once and for all! I hope that people who still claim that Jane Bernadoe was the wife of John of Union County will correct their records.
