Elbert G. Smith married Mahala/Mahola Boyd in Troup County, Georgia, on December 19, 1839. Elbert is listed in the 1840 census for Troup County, Georgia. The household consisted of himself, listed as being between the age of 30 and 40, one female, listed as between the age of 15 and 20, and one male listed between the age of 5 and 10. When the 1850 census was taken, Mahala Boyd Smith was still living in Troup County, Georgia. The household consisted of herself, listed as age 28, born in South Carolina; John H., listed as age 9, born in Georgia; Zachariah, listed as age 7, born in Georgia; Robert, listed as age 5, born in Georgia; and Martha, listed as age 3, born in Georgia. Elbert was missing from the household. Elbert appears to have died in about 1846, judging from the age of the youngest child. I have been unable to locate any member of this family after the 1850 census. I would appreciate information on any member of this family. I will be glad to exchange information on my Boyd line.
